A side has been chosen, his dedication given to it for life. Maybe for himself, to find purpose, maybe to his peers, or maybe to the combine ideals. If he does not win, he dies. That's what has been imbedded into his brain. His way of life before the uprising was normal, one of the few who was not separated from his family. No real hate for the other side, just the simplicity of war, that if he loses, he will die.

What's done is done, and he will continue to support his bretheren, his body unable to be converted for transhumanization. As far as he's concerned, he's done all he needed in his career that is possible at the current time, and now it was time for his peers. He does not truly fight for the combine, but for his peers - Atleast that's what he says. That's what he's claimed- How true that holds, it is yet to be challenged properly.
